AcronyMania is a fun way to master the terms of your trade. Play against the clock, play against yourself, play against your colleagues, or the company guru or the world at large.
The game shows you an acronym (or more properly an Initialet, since by definition, acronyms are supposed to be pronounceable, and just how would you say FCC?), or a term, or phrase, or definition. Your job is to select the 'correct' response from the three choices offered. The faster you pick the right choice, the more points you get.
By design, a perfect score equals 15 points times the number of plays you make in a game session, with a play time less than the number of plays times the minimum response time for that player level. (If you're really good, you can get a play time of 0 seconds! That's because the play time is incremented in 1/4 seconds, and then rounded down to the nearest second when scores are saved. So if you manage to make every play in less than 1/4 second, and you get every play correct, well, hey, we'll mail you an appropriate certificate, suitable for framing. If you want, we'll even e-mail your boss!)
Installation:
It's a breeze! Just double click setup.exe (or single click if that works for you, or you can do the old 'click Run and type in' the silly name, or well, just execute setup).
The installation routine will not overwrite any Windows or system files unless ours are newer than yours (and all of ours are straight from Microsoft). If you haven't updated anything in Windows since 1997 (or earlier!), you'll probably see a message about 'Your system files are out of date,' and indeed they are. Let the installation program update them for you. (A complete list of files that may be installed is included at the end of this document.)
If you know you have applications that require a particular 'old' version of a DLL or other system file, well you should be used to saving a copy of the old one before you install anything anyway. So do it again. If you're totally paranoid, feel free to make copies of all the files listed in the "File List" below. Then, if anything you need doesn't work after installing AcronyMania, you can just copy your old backup file over the newer file we installed. (Of course, AcronyMania may no longer work after you do that, but hey, your problem!)
After installation, a file named St5unst.log in the Acronymania folder gives a complete description of what was installed (or not installed) and where. (Just don't edit the file or the uninstall routine won't work!)
Uninstall:
Should you ever tire of the endless delight afforded by playing AcronyMania, you may remove it easily. (But if you registered it, you cannot give your registration to someone else. Come on, it's really cheap - give an author a break! If you didn't get your $15 worth out of the game before you trashed it, send us a nasty-gram. We'll read it and offer abject apologies - but that's all. Oh, and you can keep the updates to your system files; that'll save you a trip to Microsoft.com and some download time.)
To uninstall AcronyMania, please use the Win95, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs utility. You'll probably get a message at the end saying something about not deleting some shared files. That's because some other program on your system also uses those files. Ours may be newer versions (or, if you're reading this in 2010, not), but the files themselves need to stay, so we leave 'em.

This program is offered in the old tradition. It won't die, erase itself, only work on alternate Tuesdays, present endless Nag screens, force you to wait 10 seconds before it starts or quits, subject you to 12 screens of blinking ads or any of the other wonderful gimmicks dreamt up by the shareware world, if you don't pay.
You'll just have to live with yourself.
